Family Assistance

The Family Assistance Section is spread out across the Commonwealth in order to provide local support to the Service and Family member.  The section provides information, resources, and referral services to Service members and their Families that arise as a result of military service.

Family Assistance Programs

  • Joint Family Support Assistance Program – Provides or coordinates the delivery of high-quality family readiness services to active duty, Guard, and Reserve members and their families, targeting those who are geographically dispersed from a military installation.

Military Family Life Counselors

  •  The MFLC provides support through conversations, coaching and solution-focused brief counseling to service members and their families. 
  •  MFLC counselors do not diagnose or treat mental health or substance abuse problems.
  • The program provides education to assist service members and their families to address the day-to-day stressors of military life and the impact of deployment and reintegration.
  •  MFLC services compliment existing military support services.
  • MFLC counselors are mandated reporters of child abuse, domestic abuse, and threats to self or others in accordance with DoD protocols.
  • All services are free and confidential.  The MFLC does not keep records of counseling conversations.
  •  MFLC counselors assist in appropriate referrals for individuals needing mental health counseling outside of the MFLC scope of practice.

  • Personal Financial Counselor  - Provides direct financial readiness education and counseling services  to eligible Service members and their Families. 717.503.5411
  • Military One Source - Provides information and referral services, as well as promote a sense of military community among the geographically dispersed service and family members. 717.461.0429
  • American Red Cross - Access to financial assistance, emergency communication services, support to military Families. 1.800.733.2767 
  • Operation Military Kids - Supports the children and youth of the National Guard, Reserves and Active Duty. 814.865.2264
