Battle Staff NCO Course Phase II
1. Scope. The BSNCOC is a fast-paced and challenging course, designed to assist you in both your present and future assignments. Prepare yourself to work evenings and weekends as part of your battle-room staff assignments in addition to numerous self-study hours. Although there are many challenges in the course, graduation is very attainable as long as you apply yourself. These are two-phased courses open to all components of U.S. Army. The two phases are linked, enrollment in phase II will generate a Phase I enrollment. Phase I consists of 60 days of home study on pre-resident material thru ATIA which can be accessed the My Training portal on AKO. Students must take and pass the on-line phase I exam prior to reporting to phase II.
2. Prerequisites. Students must:
a. Students attending the BSNCOC must be in the rank of SGT through SGM, assigned to or projected for assignment to a valid ASI coded "2S" position IAW DA PAM 611-21.
b. Complete Phase I of the BSNCOC course.
3. Course Overview. All students must meet the standards outlined in AR 350-1, TRADOC Reg 350-10, TRADOC Reg 350-18, AR 600-9, and AR 670-1, and be selected by their command for attendance. Active Army Soldiers must have at least 12 months remaining in their enlistment, and ARNG Soldiers must have at least 24 months remaining. USAR Soldiers must meet the obligations outlined in AR 135-200. Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course Length: 23 days ADT. Enlisted members of the Reserve Component or Active Component in the grade of E5 thru E9, assigned to or projected for assignment to a valid ASI coded "2S" position IAW DA PAM 611-21.
Prerequisite: Completed BSNCOC Phase I. You must show proof of successful completion during in-processing. Basic computer skill is highly recommended. Students should be able to utilize Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Graduates are eligible for SQI 2S.
4. Academic Standards. To meet course graduation requirements students must achieve an overall rating of “GO” with at least 70 percent or better on the 6 examinations; three performance and three knowledge-based examinations. Only one retest is allowed for each primary evaluation/exam.
a. E150, Phase I examination, is a knowledge-based examination for all BSNCOC, and is a Pre-Resident Training Tasks. This examination must be taken and passed prior to BSNCOC, Phase II.
b. E185 is a comprehension-based examination covering Plans, Orders and Annexes.
c. E183 is a performance/knowledge-based examination covering Graphics and Overlays.
d. E186 is a knowledge-based examination covering Military Intelligence.
e. E192 is a knowledge-based examination covering Sustainment Operations.
f. Performance Examination (Military Briefing).
Students will strive to meet height and weight standards outlined in AR 600-9, meet all academic, conduct and discipline standards. Student evaluations will take place during the war fighter exercise (WFX). Commandants may not supplement these graduation requirements. Upon completion of the BSNCOC, academies will issue students a copy of DA Form 1059 (Service School Academic Evaluation Report) indicating the student has successfully completed the BSNCOC.
5. Reporting. Report to Staff Duty in Building 8-80 to receive in-processing instructions. It is recommended to report by 1400 hours in order for you to be able to make any final preparations for the start of training.
6. Documentation. Bring the following documents for in processing.
a. A properly filled out Pre-Execution Checklist TRADOC Form 350-18-2-RE, JUL 2009.
b. Five copies of your orders.
c. DA Form 3349 (Physical Profile). Permanent profiles are permitted. The Commandant may approve temporary profiles on a case-by-case basis. Soldiers with permanent or temporary profiles that preclude full participation in training will not attend this course.
d. Proof of completion of Phase 1 Battle Staff NCO Course. Documentation for completion of Phase 1 includes a copy of the Soldier’s ATRRS RS Screen indicating a “G” status for Phase 1, emails received from ATSC indicating successful completion or a copy of your exam score sheet you received upon completing the Phase 1 examination. 7. Transportation. The academy provides shuttle service from Harrisburg International Airport, Harrisburg AMTRAK Station, and the Greyhound/Capitol Trailways Bus Station. In order for us to schedule our personnel appropriately insure you provide your arrival time and flight/bus/train information when you reply advising us of your status to attend the course. 8. Billeting. Rooms are available at this academy. The rooms are 2 person rooms with a shower. There is no charge to the Soldier or their unit for these rooms.
9. Billeting Transportation/Shuttle Service. Billeting Transportation/Shuttle Service to and from billeting to the 166th Regiment is not available.
10. Meals. The academy provides meals for all students at no cost to the Soldier.
11. Pay. Your unit is responsible for all pay and allowances.
12. Uniforms/Equipment. The uniform for class is the ACU. The uniform for the weigh-in and physical fitness training is the Army issue PT uniform. During cold/wet weather bring the appropriate cold/wet weather clothing to compliment the ACU and Army PT uniforms in accordance with AR 670-1. You may wear civilian attire after duty hours. Graduation uniform is ACU.
13. Standards. You must meet the uniform and personal appearance standards in AR 670-1. The academy enforces the Honor Code and expects complete honesty at all times.
14. Weapons. The possession of privately owned firearms within the boundaries of Fort Indiantown Gap is prohibited.
15. Helpful Hints. The keys to successful completion of BSNCOC are preparation and organization. I recommend Post-it Tape Flags to tab your references and study materials to assist your research during the open book examinations. Also permanent alcohol-marking pens (fine and super fine work best) and eraser “Afro” tipped dry erase markers will be helpful for the Graphics and Overlays class.
