Deputy Adjutant General - Air

Major General Stephen M. Sischo is the deputy adjutant general-Air for the Pennsylvania National Guard, headquarters at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, Pa. He is the principal advisor to the adjutant general on all matters pertaining to air operations. The general serves as commander of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He is responsible for overall operational readiness, ensuring that the more than 4,000 assigned members are, trained, and equipped to successfully accomplish their federal and state missions.

Gen. Sischo was born in Phoenix and is a 1977 graduate of Arizona State University. He received his commission from the USAF Officer Training School in 1980. He completed undergraduate pilot training at Williams Air Force Base, Ariz., followed by several flying assignments as an A-10 pilot. He later worked at the Pentagon on an Air Staff Training Assignment (ASTRA); served as program manager for the Air-to-Ground Weapon System Evaluation Program at Eglin Air Force Base; and also served as a Fighter Weapons School instructor at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. He left active duty in 1992 when he joined the Tybrin Corporation as a software engineer developing computerized mission planning systems for military aircrew.

Gen. Sischo joined the Connecticut Air National Guard in 1996, and moved to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in 1997. He led contingency deployments to Southwest Asia in 1999, and again, in 2001, providing A-10 combat support for Operation Southern Watch.

Gen. Sischo has completed Air Command and Staff College and Air War College. His military decorations include: the Legion of Merit, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two devices, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one device, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Combat Readiness Medal. He is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours.

Gen. Sischo has served as commander of the 111th Fighter Wing, Joint Reserve Base, Willow Grove, and commander of the 193rd Special Operations Wing, Harrisburg International Airport. He assumed his current position in November 2006.
